Emanuele Montomoli
Emanuele Montomoli was graduated in 1988 from the Technical Lyceum School in Siena as industrial chemist expert.
He graduated in Life Sciences at University of Siena in 1997 discussing a thesis entitled "Optimisation of the use of MDCK cell cultures (Madin Darby canine kidney) for the epidemiological control of influenza".
He graduated as specialist in Biochemistry and Enzymology at University of Siena in 2002 discussing his thesis entitled “Purification of haemoagglutinin of the type B influenza virus through isoelectric focalisation”.
ACADEMIC and PUBLIC CAREER
In 1994 he was awarded a position of technical assistant at the Hygiene Institute of the University of Siena. In January 2000 he was granted a position as a Research Specialist after evaluation by the University of Siena of his educational credentials and published research. On 2 July 2002 he won a public competition for a single posting as University Associated Professor, at the Science Faculty of the University of Turin, for the scientific sector MED/42 (General and Applied Hygiene). On 28 October 2002 he was appointed by the Faculty of Medicine and Surgery of the University of Siena, with appointment decree n. 116 on 11 December 2002. Since November 2016, he was appointed by the Department of Molecular Medicine of University of Siena as full Professor on Hygiene and Preventive Medicine.
From April 2006 to 2010 he was selected in the Scientific Advisory Board of the Toscana Life Sciences (TLS) Foundation.
From April 2018 to 2021 he was selected in the Advisory Board of the Toscana Life Sciences (TLS) Foundation.
From September 2011 to 2015 he was appointed in the Executive Board for the Tuscany Regional Health Agency(THRA).
He was elected in the Scientific Advisory Board of international Society for Influenza and other Respiratory Viral Diseases (ISIRV) for the years 2013, 2014 and 2018 to 2022.
From May 2012 to 2016 he was appointed as a deputy delegate from the University of Siena Rector for the field of “Vaccines and Public Health”.
From 2010 he is the President of the Board for the “Master in vaccinology and drug development” at University of Siena.
PRIVATE & ENTERPRENEURIAL ACTIVITY
In 2008 he funded VisMederi srl, a private enterprise involved in laboratory activities for vaccines and antiviral drugs clinical trials and preclinical protocols. Actually, he has a role of Chief Scientific Officer in VisMederi srl.
In 2013 he funded Accurange srl, a private enterprise involved in qualified services for biomedical laboratories instruments calibration and maintenance.
In 2014 he funded VisMederi Research srl, a private enterprise involved in research activities in the field of infectious disease and vaccinology. Actually, he has a role of Chief Scientific Officer in VisMederi Research srl.
In 2018 he funded ETHS srl (Education and Training for Health Science), a private enterprise involved in Education, Training, Management of Scientific Project and Business Intelligence in the field of life sciences.
SCIENTIFIC ACTIVITY
At the beginning of his career, he carries out epidemiological and microbiological research, particularly during the influenza season when he carries out the epidemiological and virological surveillance of the respiratory viruses circulating in Italy.
Since 1994, he has carried out seroepidemiological research in order to evaluate the immune state of the Italian and European population toward influenza and other respiratory viruses. He currently co-ordinates and personally conducts epidemiological and seroepidemiological studies for monitoring the various infective diseases preventable with vaccination (tetanus, diphtheria, hepatitis B, etc.).
Since 2000, he was concentrated in assessment of new assays for vaccines evaluation and evaluation of correlates for protection.
In 2015 he was Scientific Coordinator for one European Project IMI (Innovative Medicine Initiative) titled “Standardization and development of assays for assessment of influenza vaccine correlates of protection (FLUCOP)” (IMI-JU-10-2013-01, Grant Agreement No 115672).
He is the author of around 200 papers, as well as numerous abstracts and letters, published in international scientific journals.
He has participated in many conferences as a Chair and Speaker.
